Interesting Facts About Google

The “I'm feeling lucky” button is barely used. Although, in a recent trial, it was noted that removing it would somehow make the Google experience less enjoyable. Users like their comfort button.

The name Google was an accident. A typing mistake made by the creators; they thought they were writing Googol.

Having fun at Google's nothing special

Google has the habit to publish little animations on important days, such as the 4th of July, Martin Luther King Day or Valentines day. These animations, called Doodles, appear right where the logo is usually located, at the top of the search bar. Some are short films, some are only pictures, some are interactive videos, but they are all very nice!

This one was published one Freddy Mercury's death anniversary, a few months ago.

Google's rise

·       Founded in 1998 by Larry Page and Sergey Brin (a Moscow native) in Menlo Park
·      The founders originally were Stanford students who started a little business in their garage with loans form their friends and families
·      Google was a try to be a better search engine than Altavista, with new and improved mathematical algorithms
·      The company grew up faster and had to move next to the University of Palo Alto, where Apple and Facebook are currently located
·      Google is now a giant in the industry; its website hosts a lot of services, including Google Map, Google Images, Google Finance, Google Books, etc.
·      Google stocks can now be traded at the Nasdaq, a technology-based stock market. It has been one of the most successful stocks in the last few years.


Where does the name come from?

Google was named after a number. A pretty big number in fact!
